Asbestos Sample Test
Asbestos Sample Testing involves removing a small (20p size) sample of suspected material and having it tested for asbestos in a UKAS Laboratory. The Lab results will tell you whether the sample contains asbestos or not and if it does , the type of asbestos which is present.

Artex / Popcorn Ceilings and Walls (Textured Coating)
Artex / Popcorn Coating can be found on ceilings and wall in domestic and commercial properties.
Cement
Cement asbestos is commonly found on roofing (eg garages/barns) , cladding , heating and water pipes , cowls and guttering.
Floor Tiles
Asbestos floor tiles can be found in domestic and commercial buildings.
Vinyl Flooring
Same as floor tiles , asbestos vinyl flooring can be found in domestic and commercial properties.
Bitumen
Bitumen can be found under floor tiles , vinyl , within damp proof courses , within old felt roofs and wrap for electrical wires.
Insulation
Loft insulation or insulation around heating systems can contain asbestos in older properties.
Vermiculite
Vermiculite can contain asbestos. It is commonly found in voids and loft spaces.
Felt Roofing
Older felt roofing on garages , outbuildings and sheds can contain asbestos.
Soffits
House and commercial building soffits can contain asbestos.
Pipe Lagging
Mainly found in commercial properties , pipe lagging around heating systems can contain asbestos.
Asbestos Insulation Board (AIB)
AIB can be found in commercial and domestic properties. Near heating systems , within garage ceilings , fireproofing (eg fire doors), voids in loft spaces.
Electric Meter Backboard
The back board of older electric meters can contain asbestos.

How long do the test results take?
24-48 working hours from when we take the sample.
Can you take samples from a house I plan to but that's not mine yet?
We can yes! All we do is contact the estate agents or homeowner and arrange a time to access the property. Most homeowners do not object to asbestos testing being carried out.
Can you tell if something contains asbestos from a photo?
No. We can give you an idea of whether we suspect asbestos , but we cannot give you an accurate answer from a photo. No one can! The only sure way to tell if something contains asbestos is by having a sample analysed by a UKAS Laboratory.
Are DIY Asbestos Testing Kits Reliable?
When you buy a DIY asbestos testing kit , you possibly are not trained in sample removal. Therefore , you may not be taking samples from the right areas , or cross contamination may happen. We are not saying the DIY Kits do not work.... but with a professional surveyor visit to your house, you can be 100% sure the sample and testing is being done accurately.
How do I get a something tested for asbestos?
The only accurate way to get something tested for asbestos is by UKAS Laboratory analysis.
You can have a trained professional visit your property and take a sample to be tested. Results are provided to you by email within 24-28 hours.
Does all artex contain asbestos?
No! All artex does not contain asbestos.
Many samples we have tested did not contain asbestos , but many did too! Artex was used in commercial and domestic buildings on ceilings and walls. If your property was built before 1999 , it is always worth getting the artex tested for asbestos.
